High School

USA Education System

• Preschool: Ages 3-4 (optional, not free)
• Kindergarten: Age 5
• Elementary School (Grades 1-6): Ages 6-12
• Junior High School (Grades 7-8): Ages 13-14
• High School (Grades 9-12): Ages 15-18 (also known as Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, and Senior years)
• College: 18+, typically 4 years, but depends on subject and degree ( e.g. Associate, Bachelor, Master, Doctor )

Some people skip grades and others are held back, and birthdays throw off ages, but that's a general range. Private schools often span multiple education groupings, but public schools are generally broken down into elementary, junior high, and high schools. -- Martin Alan Pedersen

Interesting post. I started robocoding at age 14, which was 9th grade for me. Now I'm in college! Ah, how the time flies. Also, junior high, or middle school, sometimes goes from grades 6-8. And some people consider kindergarten (with a t, not a d :-P) optional. -- Alcatraz

FWIW, "Middle School" was grades 5-8 in the district where I graduated High School, although I think it's 6-8 at most other local districts. -- Voidious
